Common Color Codes
In many regions, the colors follow international safety standards:
| Color | Utility Type |
| Yellow | Gas, Oil, Steam, or Gaseous Materials |
| Red | Electric Power Lines, Cables, and Conduits |
| Orange | Communication, Alarm, Signal, or Fiber Optic |
| Blue | Potable (Drinking) Water |
| Green | Sewers and Drain Lines |
4. Installation Method
The tape is typically installed using a "Layered" approach:
The utility cable or pipe is laid at the bottom of the trench.
A layer of "clean" fill or sand is placed over the cable.
The Cable Tile Tape is laid on top of that fill.
The rest of the trench is backfilled to the surface.
Why the gap? This ensures that if an excavator pulls up the tape, there is still a "buffer zone" of soil before the bucket strikes the actual power or gas line.
